The Admiral's Daughter

Synopsis

Why is 16-year-old Amelia Higgins boarding a Navy ship carrying 10,000 troops? When Admiral Samuel Higgins says to pack up and shove off, Amelia does, even if it means a 5-day trek across the Pacific. Amelia speculates this trip is about more than her father is willing to divulge. Once on board Amelia befriends a nurse, and her boyfriend, a Japanese-American sailor, a target of prejudice after the ship’s hit by a rogue torpedo. When the ship docks at Pearl Harbor on December 6, 1941, Amelia knows she is a different person. What she can’t know is - all she believes in will be blown apart before another sun sets.

I prayed Dad had finished his shipboard business, but ran as if I knew he hadn’t. ....
